I didn't know that there are three aspects of a relationship, which are PASSION, INTIMACY, and COMMITMENT.

If you have only passion, then it is INFATUATION love.

If you have only intimacy, then it is LIKING love.

If you have only commitment, then it is EMPTY love (wow!)

AND ...

PASSION + INTIMACY = ROMANTIC love
INTIMACY + COMMITMENT = COMPANIONATE  love
PASSION + COMMITMENT = FATUOUS love

therefore, the ideal love is ...

PASSION + INTIMACY + COMMITMENT = CONSUMMATE love (all-consuming)

Ngày hôm nay, tôi sẽ tìm cách sẻ chia với những người bạn quanh tôi khi cần thiết, bởi tôi biết điều quý nhất đối với con người là sự quan tâm lẫn nhau.

Ngày hôm nay, trong cách ứng xử, tôi sẽ đặt mình vào vị trí của người đối diện để lắng nghe những cảm xúc của họ, để hiểu rằng những điều làm tôi tổn thương cũng có thể làm tổn thương đến họ.

Ngày hôm nay, tôi sẽ an ủi và động viên những ai đang nản lòng. Một cái siết tay, một nụ cười, một lời nói của tôi có thể tiếp thêm sức mạnh để họ vững tin bước tiếp.


Ngày hôm nay, tôi sẽ dành một chút thời gian để quan tâm đến bản thân mình. Tôi sẽ làm tâm hồn và trí óc mình phong phú, mạnh mẽ hơn bằng cách học một cái gì đó có ích, đọc một cuốn sách hay, vận động cơ thể và ăn mặc ưa nhìn hơn.

Ngày hôm nay, tôi sẽ có một danh sách những việc cần làm. Tôi sẽ nỗ lực nhất để thực hiện chúng và tránh đưa ra những quyết định vội vã hay thiếu kiên quyết


Ngày hôm nay, tôi sẽ bỏ lại phía sau mọi lo âu, cay đắng và thất bại, khởi đầu một ngày mới với một trái tim yêu thương và hồn nhiên nhất. Tôi sẽ sống với những khát khao, mơ ước mà mình luôn ấp ủ.

Ngày hôm nay, tôi sẽ thách thức mọi trở ngại trên con đường mà tôi lựa chọn và đặt niềm tin. Tôi hiểu rằng, khó khăn là một phần của cuộc sống và chúng tồn tại là để tôi chinh phục và vượt qua


Ngày hôm nay, tôi sẽ sống hạnh phúc. Tôi sẽ trải rộng lòng để cảm nhận cái đẹp trong cuộc sống, để yêu thương và tin tưởng những người tôi yêu quý, và những người thương yêu tôi.

Ngày hôm nay, tôi sẽ làm những việc khiến tôi cảm thấy hạnh phúc: xem một bộ phim hài, làm một việc tử tế, giúp đỡ một ai đó, gửi một chiếc thiệp điện tử, nghe một bản nhạc yêu thích...

Và hôm nay, ngay bây giờ, tôi cảm nhận được hạnh phúc và sức sống mới để bắt đầu một ngày mới thật có ích - bất kể ngày hôm qua như thế nào.

Those first pix were taken at the Dog Beach in Point Loma when I was hanging out with my friend last Sat. Her puppy was pretty cute. She liked to be under the shadow of my legs. How weird! May be it was so sunny out there?!  haha ...

The others I took this afternoon when going to San Diego zoo. My purpose of coming there was looking for a hand-made bag that I bought last year, but I could not buy one because they ran out of that item. What a pity! However, I got a book cover and two little rulers for kids. :-) :-)

I also stopped by the Flamingo birds area and learned that they only standed on one foot. Why? Because it kept them warm. Interesting hah?

I am wondering how I should spend my summer in Vietnam. It will be about three weeks vacation. Should I stay at Saigon for several days before leaving for Hue?! The reason is most of my friends are now in Saigon or elsewhere, so I don't know who gonna join me besides my elder cousins in Hue. One of my uncles in Saigon said that he would arrange a "pick up truck", haha, to take me and my sis hang around SG. It sounded pretty nice, but I don't really know where to go. My friends may be busy with work and school even though it's summer. I know that I should decide quickly so my uncle could buy the air plane ticket for us to Hue. Recently, my sis gave me an advice "take the bus/car to Hue." OMG, it recalled me about an awful time when I had a ride to SG via my uncle'sMer. I was throwing up during the trip. It was just a nightmare. Therefore, I promise myself not to take any long distance transportation, such as cars, buses, and trains. Anyway, I am debating. Any suggestion, dude?

Yesterday, I attended a free session about stress management. Actually, I had stress for a long time and I was struggling with it. Everything had come at the same time that I didn't know how to handle them nicely. Therefore, when I heard about this session, I was so eager to join in. It was an hour long seminar conducted by my peer health educators, who taught me how to breathe correctly. It seemed very simple, like people said, as simple as a breath. In fact, it's not that simple at all. Breath plays an important role in managing human's stress, so people should breathe correctly to have good health.
In deed, a right breath will help people reduce stress. For example, when I stress out, I inhale deeply, hold my breath for about four seconds, then exhale as slowly as possible. Practicing it for about ten times then my temper will be under controlled. It's just a lovely tool to manage stress, isn't it? Now I feel more confident when knowing another cool method that reduces stress, besides practicing Yoga. :-)

              It's been a long day. However, I feel much better now because I submitted some paper works to the Biology department for a position in a Biology lab. I have to commit a year, including this summer, working in this lab as my boss let me know in an email. It is a great opportunity for me to study with outstanding faculty, learn about basic research philosophy and skills, as well as refine my understanding of genetics, biochemistry, and plant biology. I have been longing for this opportunity. Let's see, my main project in this Spring quarter is making media, place seeds in agarose gel, let them grow, then evaluate root elongation of mutants grown on control plates.Traditional forward genetics screen will be used to look for plants that are resistant or sensitive to cadmium, one of the heavy metals that are poison to soil. Data will be analyzed by performing tests to determine the statistical differences between root length of mutants vs. wild type plants. I will participate as a member of this lab by working with a PhD student to assist him with his dissertation project. By the way, that PhD student is my present lab tech's husband. I was introduced to work with him by his wife. :-D

            O.C midterm is coming, aha, on Tuesday next week. I gotta "ca`y" now. There are only three weeks left before the final exams. Time flies fast!
